Natural Home Cleaners: Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar

excerpt from Natural Baby and Childcare by Lauren Feder, M.D.

Choose natural brands of cleaning products or make them yourself. Hydrogen peroxide has antiseptic properties and is considered a safe and natural cleanser. Vinegar has been used for thousands of years medicinally and for household purposes, including as an antiseptic that kills most bacteria, viruses, and mold.

To make a simple cleaning solution, pour 3% hydrogen peroxide and 5% white distilled vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) into two separate clean spray bottles. Whether it be cleaning countertops, vegetables, or wood cutting boards, the paired sprays work well. Although any order can be used, I prefer the vinegar (because of the odor) followed by the hydrogen peroxide. Rinse food with clean water afterward.
